You won't see him waiting in the dark. Sitting just inside the shadows  so that the light doesn’t touch him. And he has been waiting here, for you, for days. 

If you would have taken the time to slow down, you might have noticed the footprints surrounding the cabin, in a calm and even stride. 

But now, it is too late. 

Because you wounded him. You stole from him. And now, it is his time to get his revenge. 

And all you can do is try to defend your life. But as the seconds tick by, it becomes more and more apparent that the entire community around you will begin to wonder if man is really as strong as we think we are. 

Or if the top predator is really that of the tiger.

As a person needing help, there will never be a feeling that can override the sensation of being pulled to safety; to realizing that you are going to live. But, as a rescuer, celebrating the wins doesn't overshadow the loss. And even worse, when you are on scene and actively participating in a rescue, you can see those needing help, you can see the desperation in their eyes and the practically hear the sobs when you are forced to turn away and leave them behind.

And you are left wondering if there was anything you could have done differently. Your thoughts circle the drain of all the tactics and techniques you used and somehow found yourself unsuccessful.
