54| Coming Back Alive

Coming out of a situation that should have killed you leaves many in a dazed state of wonder. Wonder for how they survived, how others made it out alive, and how they can possibly move forward when others died. 

Yet, this is what rescuers do on the waters of Alaska’s Gulf on a regular basis. Head out into stormy weather to save those who ran out of time to save themselves. It is dangerous and miraculous that anyone at all comes home alive. 

In this story, though, the heartbreaking reality is that almost all come home alive. Almost all come home with shattered hearts. And almost all come back alive.
